old virginia!

Jacob Boyd back at ames... spring time 2005? Matt Vincent chillin!
Jacob tree jump at ames
Old Great Neck Trails 1998? This was my first real spot and the beggining of my addiction for finding spots, digging, riding, building teepees and hanging out! This set of woods is now tropical smoothie, ruby tuesdays, central 511, coldstone...all sorts of non squirrel related stores. Bummer.
Jeff Nicholson at radford trails. Note how green! Im moving back there on wednesday to finish my music degree, so I'll be digging there again too. Erik from patriot bikes took over the spot and its looking legit as hell. Jeff was my ultimate trail buddy until he left for paraguay. His bike got stolen too many times though for him to keep his chin up. One day we'll make the funny comedy/documentary on these 2 dudes who build trails together but one of them dosnt even like trails or anything hes just gay and needed an excuse to hangout in the woods with a guy. Such a sketchy story line its almost scary but its perfect. ew. ugh.
Me at ames dead of winter 2004/2005? Im not into winter, and I still cant table for shit but Im not gonna quit riding until I can get them flat. serious.

Balls

Every now and then you get in a cycle when you start hanging out with the same dude on a daily basis and its awesome. It happend in austin with derek and ski, we would ride bikes and play music on the daily. insane. Since Ive been home and went to richmond its been balls! We eat chanellos pizza listen to music, ride and stay stoked. On the way home from richmond we rode 2 race tracks and a skatepark. Last night we started digging again at thrashmore, should be real fun. We also put together my old 1" holmes while watching bmx on the olympics, a pretty righteous night especially since balls has been trying to build that bike for 2 years. We took it into the street at 3 am and had fun. I mean it this time WE HAD FUN on our bikes, it wasnt through the motions stuff, we got goofy. I decided I could do a 180 so I tried it, and pulled it off first try, roll out and everything. Real lame to everyone else but, to me Im real stoked. Balls and I just kept laughing and had fun till about 4 am. Im going to try to do a 180 tonight for christians birthday present because he love street and would be amped on me doing one im sure. Im pretty bobo on a bike to be honest, but I really love the creative side of building trails and riding bikes in the woods. Being around kick ass dudes always rules too. So yeah Im having fun in VA and am leaving to go dig at thrashmore. Christian hewitts birthday tonight at POS should be nuts! Virginia is for lovers.

farewell

If it had rained more, there would have been way more to build and ride. I moved back to Virginia Beach for the time being, I might go back to school to finish in a year, and fix up my old trails out there. Or I might travel around till spring. But for now the zoo is just hiding out in the woods alone. It has great potential. I hope someone picks up the shovel while Im gone.

progress

I love this picture. We just finished the step down roller thing...it has a pretty big gap, i havnt cleared it yet...but I will. Derek did. Im making a built to spill tape right now for tomorrow's trail events. keep digging. Having Ski, Derek, Matt and Brian around has honestly changed my life. so glad they're here.

lumberjacks...friends!

Trail population 5. A new record. Ski moved down here from virginia beach bringing with him derek and jay. I couldnt be happier...3 quality dudes from home to hang hard with, smell, ride, be lumberjacks and forget about girls. Life seriously kicks ass right now, its pure dude time and its been going great. We're going to be camping at the trails thursday till--? I cant imagine whats going to get done and go on. Today we cut down all the trees that fell over from the lightning months ago and dug a little for the long jump. Drank coors light again and met one of the dudes who lives in the woods...real cool and loved pizza from NY. bad tattoos. Its dereks birthday and Im trying to celebrate it for at least a week!

spiders...coors light...finished!

Crazy red wasp with blue wings killed massive wolf spider. Then started to drag wolf spider into wasp home inside log at bottom of our landing berm thing.
Me holding sad but dead wolf spider...Im assuming it was sad...it didnt put off a happy dead feel
Matt holding dead sad wolf spider. Note...bug is massive.
A six pack of coors light later and months of working on this landing berm thing its done! Im still soaking wet because it rained a ton today while we dug. I love getting filthy. I fell asleep in the mud and there are still bugs on me but Im happy at least! Right when we finished I grabbed my bike to jump it but I had a flat...thats the 4th flat Ive gotten there. I jumped it when it wasnt done and it was really awesome...now its got to be amazing. Matt also built the next lip / roller dude after this today. Its going to be sorda mellow but have a really long gap. After this landing youre going really fast and downhill. We have to cut the tree down from the lightning storm now to move ahead. chainsaw, more rain, motivation and we'll finally be into the sweet part of the woods and the sweet part of the trails!

best attitude

I want to spend all day with this guy. I started doing random jobs off of craigslist again to make money, yesterday I painted for 9 hours straight with this guy. It was actually really fun. The day before that Jared Vaughn and I recorded at a studio all day...Im working on something music related but am still not involved fully with anything I love, its killing me. Its been hot as shit, hasnt rained no building, no riding. Sometimes bmx dosnt exist at all in my life sometimes its my favorite thing, lately my favorite thing was hanging out with this frog. I should have kept him.

welcome matt

This headline could be mis-understood perhaps. You could be thinking "welcome mat" the thing that you step on when walking into someones house who would rather spend their time eating bananas then sweeping the floor. This welcome matt however is for matt above. We grew up down the street from each other and eventually got into riding bmx together then built our first set of trails together (RIP REGAN TRAILS). MATT LIVES HERE NOW! We've been digging together the past 2 days and hanging out hard. Stoked. I also jumped the set for the first time yesterday. Extremely exciting and awesome. Pics or videos of that soon. It needs to thunderstorm so we can dig more and more efficiently. This dry dirt, mix it in old timer with water stuff has got to go.

deerland 07

Color coordinated day at CJ's trails sometime last fall. Looks like a jungle in the background.
Budweiser bandanna, bloody knee, cutoff shorts, sweaty as it gets, beard, last summer was good. This summer however is already at 100 degrees plus on a daily basis. sucks. Ive been slacking on the zoo and I havnt heard from brian in about 2 weeks. It needs to rain if any digging is going to go down but I know when that happens a lot is going to get done. For now I'll go ride the pump track with matt conaway since he lives here now. Stoked on that. Drink water, turn on the AC, get naked.

old timer

"when do you think this was made?"

"I guess the twenties? I mean the wheel is metal!"

"I cant believe someone was throwing this away, I think we're getting better use out of it then anyone would. I hate thinking of old timer in the junkyard."

wolf spider

green

Farmers markets have all kinds of hippie stuff...fresh food, vegetables, plants, soaps, boomerangs? Im not knocking any of this stuff, I dig all of it really. What Im trying to get at is this, "where do I belong at the farmers market?"

See this leaf above, well thats my ticket. These things blow my mind, theyre beautiful for one thing, theyre bigger then the average leaf and most importantly natures toilet paper. I said it, I did it. oh well. One side has freaking fur on it! DUH!

Back to the market. half joking half serious... there are some GREEN people down here. Bundle a ton of these things together and sell them for like 3 bucks. Marketable as 100% natural toilet paper, biodegradable, and fun!

"you could sell an entire bundle for 1 dollar and make an insane profit"-christian sawyer

long weekend

Friday I dug alone for at least 8 hours then saturday brian came out and we dug for at least 7 hours...what happend? What happend besides getting sick of my tapes? Well we built our first jump...and started building this hip/berm/landing thing. You can see the way the trail is going...its real windy, downhill berm jump hip berm landing...then its going under the tree that got struck by lightning...we've got to build a tunnel under the tree. im excited about it. After that some long ski jump thing, long and fast, I want to be flying at this point!
We're going to have to get some kind of tarps or covers for the stuff in the begginig because the sun hits it so much drying it out and making the work look like count draculas lips from 1950s black and white films...you catch my drift? cracked lips!!!!!!!!! GROSS. Does dracula have cracked lips? in my mind he does. yes. We havnt jumped the hip yet because we finished at 9pm...it was dark, and my bike is broken because I threw it like an idiot. Things have been a little too up in the air for me lately, thats why I dug so much friday. I needed it. I love it.
Note-brian is afraid of the dark. At deerland he was afraid a deer was going to kill him. Here he's afraid of pablo killing us? Im not so sure why but he does drive us, he is sweet, and he listens to hours of talk and blabble from me in the woods, he's also a great dude. Brian you are allowed to be afraid of the dark, but after digging for countless hours I kind of just want to sit and look at it while the night-time ants bite me. I love you.

"DEERLAND"n- The name of the trails brian and I abandoned. They are up north and are actually pretty fun but they were started by a mountain biker named CJ. They are too far away and there are tons of rocks in the dirt. Pluses to deerland is a hut, a lot of deer, a decent tree house and a really low key location. oh yeah and a purse some weird kids found that has KY jelly in it...kinky.

"PABLO"n- We all know who pablo is...come on.

RAMBO is a POSER!

So what this picture isnt going to make the myspace hottest dudes hall of fame...infact we both look quite lame. Truth be told rambo aint got shit on us, when was the last time you saw rambo digging through a thunderstorm? Oh what, you saw him shoot a flaming arrow in the rain at some vietnam hut!? you think thats bad....the tree to our right got struck by effing lightning!we're stupid but Brian is in med school (omg thats so not bmx tough!) and he only gets 1 to 2 days a week to have fun. Milk it.

Essentials

I quit my job, so I am jobless for now... well sorda. Believe it or not I actually babysit 2 kids a few days a week. A 2 year old girl and a 4 year old boy. They're pretty awesome, they teach me a lot about myself and life and how as we get older I think we as humans find it more acceptable to lie to each other...or bullshit our emotions more. which is lame. kids are pure and amazing. ANYWAY I spend a lot of time digging by myself which in some ways is zen-like but sometimes it sucks. Regardless I must have water, some snacks, my shirt off, my bookbag full of tapes, and JAM-O.

"JAM-O"n.- The best 5 dollars Ive ever spent. The best piece of recording equipment Ive ever owned. A tape player with a built in microphone that boosts the cassette tape music through the woods into my ears while I dig, sit, think, stink, hang.

Finished

This nugget of joy consist of the following; 4 elephant loads of dirt...maybe more, bunch a logs, farts, rocks, ants, a rusted wrench we found while digging, apple cores, and banana peels. Brian thinks its funny to throw banana peels into berms while we're digging then say, "BERMNANA!" Then we both laugh like its never happend before...but we have and its still funny and stupid. After that we go into talking about how our creations are eco friendly...and then I talk about the time Josh and I saw raccoons at my old trails in VA go through the set at dusk. insane. This berm has actually since gotten bigger and I think its probably going to get taller and taller untill its stupid tall.

"Stupid Tall"v.- meaning way taller then it needs to be, no tire could ever get to the top tall, visually appealing but probably ridiculous, ants would assume it was the ant version of the HRE or holy roman empire for those who didnt take History 101 and 102.

DIG

This was the first day, we planned out our bob-slead-ish line and started making the berm. It starts on this hill and wraps around...should be fun.
